Grayson Picks Up Two Wins Over Cisco


Grayson softball added two more conference wins on Wednesday afternoon defeating Cisco by scores of 8-2 and 10-1.

 

Grayson opened up the scoring in game one in the first inning when Skylar Shedlock singled on a 3-2 count scoring one run.

 

After holding Cisco scoreless in the top of the second, the Vikings pushed their lead to four with three runs in the bottom of the inning.  Those runs scored on an Ashton Birchfield bases-loaded walk, a sacrifice fly off the bat of Shelby Fleming, and a line drive rbi single to left field from Danielle Humphrey.  

 

Up 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Grayson tacked on one more when pinch-hitter Cailyn Cunningam drove an rbi double over the centerfielder's head making the score 5-1.

 

Grayson got three insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Morgan Lewis led off with a double to left field followed by a rbi double from Fleming.  Humphrey then blasted a two-run shot to right field to increase the Viking lead to seven.

 

Cisco got one on the board in the top of the seventh before Kylie Williams got a ground ball to shortstop Morgan Lewis to finalize her complete-game performance and give the Vikings an 8-2 win.

 

Williams earned the victory for Grayson. She surrendered two runs on nine hits over seven innings, striking out seven.

 

Grayson racked up nine hits in the game. Danielle Humphrey, Skylar Shedlock, and Morgan Lewis each racked up multiple hits.

 

Alexus White wasted no opportunities at the plate in game two, driving in six on two hits to lead Grayson past Cisco 10-1. White drove in runs on a double in the second and a grand slam in the third to the break the game open.

 

Grayson notched five runs in the third inning. The Vikings big inning was driven by a home run by White and a double by Danielle Humphrey.

 

Olivia Gutierrez earned the win. She went five innings, allowing one run on five hits, striking out four and walking zero.

 

Grayson tallied eight hits in the game with Alexus White and Baylee McBrannon each having two.
